"He who rests, rusts" – this motto seems to have been embraced by Peter Krischio, Schwalbe's Product and R&D Manager for Race, Gravel, and Cross. Because although the Swabians already had an extremely complete and successful portfolio for gravel racing that would have sufficed for many other manufacturers for a decade, they are now presenting a comprehensive generational change for 2025: The tires G-One R Pro and G-One RS Pro have been completely revised, and with the brand-new G-One RX Pro, they are expanding their range with a fast knobbed tire for the roughest conditions.
All G-One Pro R models received an optimized carcass construction for higher puncture protection, improved rolling characteristics, and noticeably more flexibility. Additionally, they feature a faster and more durable dual compound, wider dimensions up to 50 mm, more colors, and hookless compatibility. The revised Schwalbe logo with white and baby blue letters completes the overall visual impression. All products are manufactured using recycled carbon black; the raw materials come from Fair Rubber-certified sources.
We were at the presentation in the new Schwalbe HQ in Reichshof, received exclusive insights behind the scenes of the newly designed company headquarters, and of course, were able to conduct a comprehensive test ride.

Schwalbe has been one of the leading manufacturers of performance gravel tires for many years. Their success story began back in 2015 with the presentation of the G-One Allround and the S-One, one of the first road tubeless tires specifically developed for Paris-Roubaix.
Particularly with the G-One Allround, the Swabians set new standards in amateur sports and continuously expanded the series: The G-One Speed (2016) and the G-One Bite (2017) expanded the portfolio, before the G-One Ultrabite, a particularly aggressive model for demanding tracks, was introduced in 2019. In the same year, Amity Rockwell celebrated a historic victory at the Dirty Kanza (now Unbound) on the G-One Allround - and that without a single flat.
With the G-One R (2021) and the innovative G-One RS (2022), Schwalbe successfully continued the development of its gravel tires. Top riders like Ivar Slik and Amity Rockwell achieved outstanding victories in prestigious races such as the Unbound and The Traka.
2023 marked a record year for Schwalbe: Riders on G-One tires triumphed at prestigious events such as the Badlands, the German Championships, and the Gravel World Championships.
The victories continued in 2024. Caro Schiff on the G-ONE R (combined with RS at the rear) and Petr Vakoc won the Traka 200 in May 2024. Additionally, Schwalbe announced plans to expand its gravel family for 2025 with the G-One R Pro line and the new G-One RX Pro tire, which is set to establish new standards in off-road performance.
New: G-One RX Pro
Schwalbe expands its gravel series with the G-ONE RX by adding another model that is designed for optimal off-road performance and is particularly aimed at providing excellent grip on challenging terrain such as rocky and muddy tracks.
New RX Profile: Like the G-ONE R, the RX retains the boomerang design, which offers good traction with low rolling resistance on steep climbs. However, the RX has more pronounced knobs that are optimized for even more grip on unpaved paths.
The design includes paired outer blocks for maximum cornering traction - a concept that has already proven successful with the cross tire X-ONE R. The intermediate area of the tread is open ("Wide Gap") to ensure high self-cleaning even in muddy conditions.
New Casing: Schwalbe relies on a new casing construction and an innovative "Turn-Up" technology with three layers on the sidewall. This provides improved protection against punctures and cuts. The V-Guard puncture protection belt, which is 5 millimeters wider, offers additional puncture protection under the tread. Additionally, the arrangement of the layers has been optimized to reduce rolling resistance and increase souplesse (the term "souplesse" - French for "suppleness" - describes the ability of a material to be flexible and adaptable without losing strength).
New Tire Compound: An improved formula makes the "New Addix Race" the fastest Addix Dual-Compound ever with improved grip on wet surfaces. The central tread has been optimized for speed, the side surfaces for maximum grip. In conjunction with the revised casing construction, the rolling resistance (RoWi) has been reduced by around 10% in all models.
Schwalbe G-One R Pro Line-Up 2025
The aforementioned innovations, however, do not only concern the G-One RX: The existing models G-One RS and G-One R also receive the new rubber compound, the optimized carcass construction, and the blue PRO label. Additionally, the size range for all models will be expanded to 50C. In the future, there will only be the categories "Standard" and "PRO" – the Evolution series will be discontinued.

The G-One RX is ideal for particularly demanding off-road terrain. Thanks to its new, aggressive tread design, it provides better control at higher speeds on loose surfaces, rocky gravel, and muddy trails. The boomerang elements in the center ensure easy rolling, while the knobs on the left and right offer strong grip under load. The outer blocks provide traction and stability in fast corners and on challenging tracks.
The G-One RX Pro in 50C in practice
The presentation of the new G-One Pro tires took place at the end of September at the Schwalbe headquarters in western Germany, about 14 days after heavy rains had hit and flooded many parts of Europe.
The area around Reichshof in the Oberbergischer Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia was not affected by the floods, but the forest paths and trails were thoroughly soaked, offering an excellent opportunity to put the new RX tires to the test.
I received the new RX Pro with a 50 mm width and transparent sidewall. What a monster! To illustrate the difference to the 40C model, I took some comparison photos with my phone during the presentation.
G-One RX 40C vs. 50C
The G-One RX tubeless was mounted on DT Swiss carbon rims with a 24 mm inner width - a similar setup that I also ride at home on my Merida Silex.
The tire pressure was calculated for me by Schwalbe based on the tire model, total weight, and ground conditions: 1.7 Bar front and 1.9 Bar rear. In conversation, I was also informed that I could ride the same pressure with Aerothan tubes, and this is rather at the upper end of the puncture safety scale.
Equipped with the full load of the latest Schwalbe technologies (Race Pro casing with TLR, V-Guard puncture protection, and the new Addix Race compound), the boomerang profile with the coarse knobs offered a great mix of traction, grip, and comfort.
I hadn't been in such deep mire for a long time, and the tire exuded a high level of safety and riding pleasure. It was similar for Product Manager Krischio, who often came across sideways at the front and rear in fast trail sections, but always managed to bring his Scott Addict Race back under control.
My conclusion on the 50er
The G-One RX in 50 millimeter width does result in noticeable handling losses, yet the gravel bike does not feel as sluggish as a mountain bike. Besides its outstanding safety on wet gravel, root, and mud sections, its performance on solid ground is also fitting: The tire glides swiftly over gravel and can be leaned stably on asphalt.
For daily adventures, the 50C is definitely too much, but for globetrotters with a heavily loaded travel gravel bike, it could be a game changer. However, with this tire and the corresponding pressure, no one needs a suspension fork.
Only cross makes you someone.

Shortly before the story was published, we already received our first long-term test tires from series production. I chose deep black G-One RX Pro in 45C, which is the golden mean between 40C and 50C. Aside from the fact that the larger size certainly doesn't fit every frame, I thought that the 45C would be a good compromise for all off-road uses in the cold and wet season.
Mounting the 45 mm wide tires, including the matching Aerothan tubes, was surprisingly easy despite the Vision wheels having a narrow rim width of only 19 mm, and the tire beads moved willingly into the rim flanges with little pressure. The weight of both test tires was only a few grams above the manufacturer's specification, and the tires still inflated to an external width of 43 millimeters at 2 bar on the narrow rims.
Aerothan Excursion
Like its two siblings, the G-One RX Pro also works excellently with Tubeless Sealant. So why on earth should you ride it with TPU tubes despite its outstanding TLR qualities? Quite simply: Firstly, because of the faster installation and secondly, because of the more comfortable repair in the event of a puncture. In terms of suppleness (that nimble riding feel that you can feel but can hardly explain), puncture protection, and rolling resistance, we see no significant disadvantages compared to tubeless.
Only the puncture protection is at a lower level with Aerothan, which is why you should make your decision dependent on the rider's weight, tire pressure, and the vegetative conditions.
Aerothan +/- (vs. rubber)
Advantages | Disadvantages |
Light and barely noticeable | Less stretchable |
Natural feel when gravel biking | More difficult to mount |
Odorless and tasteless | Can be too tight if the wrong size is chosen |
Secure fit and pressure stable | Can tear if the trail is too rough |
Compared to their counterparts made of butyl or latex, Aerothan tubes are vastly superior, apart from the initial price (see our extensive Aerothan review). Thanks to their immense shape stability, they can be ridden at significantly lower air pressures and are roughly on par with butyl tubes in terms of air pressure stability. Frequent re-pumping, as is often necessary with latex tubes, is not required.
Limitless pleasure and optimal safety with the ultra-thin tubes made from Aerothan.

The G-One RX 45C in practice
Due to the narrow rims with an internal width of only 19 millimeters - which I consider outdated for a current adventure bike - the tires couldn't have been wider. Of course, the G-One RX in 40C would have fit even better, but in the long run, I wanted to use the tires on my DT Swiss wheels with a 24 mm internal width. But anyway, let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. For a few off-road test rides and the photo shoot, it was fine.
On hard surfaces (asphalt, firm gravel), the G-One RX rolled incredibly smoothly and almost as fast as I was used to from the all-round predecessor, the G-One R. They could also be leaned aggressively in corners up to the edge without slipping.
On loose surfaces (deep gravel, forest paths, trails), however, the newly designed Boomerang tread fully played to its strengths and underscored the differences from the G-One R with significantly better traction and confident braking behavior. In addition, the RX, with its alternating, elongated, and angled side knobs, offered high cornering grip and literally cut into the ground. The deeper, looser, and wetter the ground, the more noticeable the difference.
Self-cleaning also worked excellently after muddy off-road sections: Thanks to the Wide Gap design, the tread quickly and sustainably freed itself from dirt and mud.
But also on mixed surfaces, such as thin layers of gravel or sand on solid ground, the G-One RX showed its strength - both in terms of traction and braking behavior as well as cornering grip. The height of the tire tread probably made the difference, as the knobs were always able to penetrate the top layer and find secure grip underneath.
My conclusion on the 45er
Anyone who frequently rides on loose or mixed surfaces and longs for maximum cornering grip (even in wet conditions) is definitely better off with the G-One RX than with the all-rounder G-One R. Because after skidding usually comes a fall and sometimes even a trip to the plaster room.
Tip: For optimal performance and a wider range of tire pressures, we recommend rims with an internal width of at least 22 to 24 mm. Because gravel riding is not child's play, and narrower rims are at most used for cutting dachshunds.
