The Crafty first rolled into the electrified bike scene in 2016 - back then with an aluminum frame and an external battery. Over the years and after the introduction of the next generation in 2020, it has undeniably developed into Mondraker's bestseller.
With the introduction of the Bosch CX Gen 5 motor, it has now undergone another comprehensive overhaul.
The Enduro Crafty retains its virtual pivot suspension system. However, the so-called Zero Suspension design has been updated and optimized to incorporate all the insights from newer models like the Neat and the Sly.
The shock absorber has been realigned, and the lower shock mount is now actuated by the rear swingarm instead of the lower link. The rear travel remains at 150 mm, combined with a 160 mm fork. The XR model offers ten millimeters more travel at the front. The Crafty still relies on 29-inch wheels at both the front and rear.
The frame
The main frame is made of lightweight Stealth Air Carbon, while the rear triangle is made either from Stealth Alloy Structure RT or also from Stealth Air Carbon, depending on the model.
The latter impresses with the use of high modulus fibers and a complex laminate, creating an optimal balance of low weight, durability, stiffness, and targeted compliance.
In the head tube area, there is still a structural reinforcement like in the older model. However, the top tube is now thinner and wider and features a more aggressive design. The down tube has a larger diameter to accommodate the new Bosch batteries with 600 Wh or 800 Wh. Although they have the same length, they have different diameters because the larger battery has an extra layer of cells arranged.
The monoblock deflection lever is — as the name suggests — made from a single piece to ensure maximum stiffness with minimal weight. For models with a full carbon frame, the deflection lever is made of carbon, while for the other two equipment variants, an aluminum deflection lever (two halves that are welded) is used.
The frames are equipped with very well-sealed MAX bearings and oversized 15 mm axles to increase durability.
The cables are routed into the frame through separate entries on the side of the head tube, where the HHG system for internal cable routing is located. Alternatively, if desired, the cables can also be routed directly through the headset.
Additionally, it is now possible to mount two bottle cages, allowing for either two water bottles or one water bottle plus Bosch's 250 Wh Powermore Range Extender.
The rear uses the UDH standard for derailleur hangers, the Boost standard 148 x 12 mm, and accommodates tires up to 66 mm (2.6 inches) wide. A small, integrated mudguard protects the shock from dirt thrown up by the rear wheel.
Rubber and plastic protectors shield the frame from damage and reduce noise from chain slap. A small chain guide keeps the chain reliably on the chainring. The brake mounts at the rear conform to the Post Mount 200 standard.
After tests with a combination of a 29" front wheel and a 27.5" rear wheel, Mondraker found that a smaller rear wheel slightly improved handling but significantly reduced climbing performance. Therefore, they decided to keep the Crafty Carbon as a pure 29er to maximize traction and optimally implement motor performance.
In terms of battery management, Mondraker listened to customer feedback and made the battery replaceable in the 2025 model. The battery can now be removed from the underside of the down tube. It is secured in the down tube with a carbon cover in the frame color. To compensate for the additional weight from the removal feature, the main frames of all models are made of carbon, allowing Mondraker to keep the overall frame weight at a similar level compared to the previous model. This is great, especially since carbon provides the ideal combination of strength and weight in this structurally complex area.
The full carbon frame of the Crafty Carbon weighs about 3,100 grams without the shock absorber. Models with aluminum linkages and rear triangles weigh an additional 500 to 550 grams.
Mondraker has also developed its own locking mechanism that works with a hex key lock and is significantly lighter than the key lock system offered by Bosch.
Electronics
The Crafty is equipped with Bosch's new Gen 5 Performance Line CX motor, which offers 85 Nm of torque, 600 watts of maximum power, and up to 340% support.
Compared to its predecessor, the motor is about 100 grams lighter. More importantly, it runs quieter in all situations and no longer causes rattling noises during downhills.
Integrated into the top tube is the Bosch System Controller — the central control unit of the bike — with a colored LED display for charge status and riding modes. The latter can be individually adjusted via the Bosch app.
Under the handlebar, well-protected, sits the brand new Purion 400 display, undoubtedly Bosch's best integration of a digital display to date. It shows a variety of information as well as the battery level in percentage.
The Crafty Carbon can be ridden with either a 600 Wh or 800 Wh battery. Depending on the bike model, one of the two versions is installed. Since the battery is directly attached to the battery cover with four screws, either the cover must be re-screwed during a battery change, or a second cover from Mondraker can be purchased.
Additionally, there is the option to use the 250 Wh Bosch Powermore auxiliary battery, which can be mounted in one of the bottle holders.
Geometry
Mondraker's Forward Geometry combines a longer front-center area with a shorter stem and has established itself as a pioneering concept in modern bicycle geometry. The geometry values of the Spaniards have changed only slightly over the past ten years, as they were ahead of their time.
With the new Crafty, an additional frame size is added to the selection. The available frame sizes are called S, M, ML, L, and XL. Compared to the previous model, the size S is 5 mm shorter and now has a reach of 445 mm. The XL size, on the other hand, has grown by 10 mm and now measures 520 mm. All models are equipped with 30 mm short stems.
For the first time, Mondraker applies size-dependent chainstays. In sizes S to ML, the chainstays are 455 mm long, while they grow by 10 mm to 465 mm in sizes L and XL.
In the latest version, the stack height has increased across all sizes due to longer head tubes. Additionally, sizes S to ML are equipped with handlebars with a 25 mm rise, while L and XL are delivered with a 38 mm rise.

In comparison to the reach, the seat tube lengths are quite short for an extended selection regarding frame sizes. Due to the new arrangement of the suspension element, which intersects the seat tube, the insertion depth of the seat post is limited (180 mm for size S, 215 mm for M, 235 mm for ML, 255 mm for L, and 275 mm for XL).
Nevertheless, Mondraker was able to increase the travel of the installed dropper posts, partly through the use of the latest generations with a shorter overall length for the same travel. Some Crafty models feature Onoff posts with an adjustable travel range to individually adapt the travel to the rider's inseam.
A flip-chip at the shock mount allows for fine-tuning of the geometry. The head angle can be lowered from 64.5° to 64.15°, which reduces the steep seat angle of 77.95° by the same amount. Additionally, the bottom bracket lowers by 5 mm from 350 mm to 345 mm.
In the XR model, which has a longer fork, the head angle (64.1° in the higher flip-chip position) and the seat angle (77.55°) are slightly slacker, and the bottom bracket is 3 mm higher.
ZS56 headset cups at the top and bottom offer additional options to adjust the head angle or reach with retrofit headsets.
Kinematics
The suspension design of the Mondraker Crafty is based on a virtual pivot system, which connects the rear triangle to the main frame via a rocker link at the top and a small link at the bottom.
The shock absorber is compressed both by the rocker link at the upper shock mount and by the rear triangle, which is attached to the lower shock mount. In comparison, the previous model of the Crafty had its lower shock mount actuated by the lower link.
Mondraker recommends a sag window of 30 to 35% as the optimal range.
Mondraker switched to a trunnion shock with a shorter stroke (185 x 55 mm) to increase the overall leverage ratio to 2.73:1. This improves the responsiveness at the beginning of the travel and is intended to provide overall better absorption capability.
In close collaboration with Fox, Mondraker worked intensively on tuning the shock to optimally complement the new kinematics of the Crafty Carbon. Numerous iterations were undertaken to ensure a version with as much support as possible throughout the entire travel.
A similar process was also undertaken for the setup of the Öhlins shock absorber in the XR model.
- The spring curve of the leverage ratio runs as a regular curve, which provides additional progression in the middle range of the suspension travel and becomes somewhat more linear towards the end.The spring curve of the leverage ratio runs as a regular curve, which provides additional progression in the middle range of the suspension travel and becomes somewhat more linear towards the end.
- Mondraker was able to reduce the anti-squat, which means that the chain tension has less influence on the suspension behavior and overall is supposed to provide a sensitive riding feel.
With a gear combination of 34/24, the value is approximately 123% at 30% sag and 120% at 35% sag.Mondraker was able to reduce the anti-squat, which means that the chain tension has less influence on the suspension behavior and overall is supposed to provide a sensitive riding feel.

Model variants
The Crafty Carbon is offered in two frame versions, as previously mentioned — with a full carbon frame or with an aluminum rear triangle. In total, there are five models.
In all versions, Mondraker uses handlebars and stems from its own component brand Onoff. As part of the geometry concept, a short 30-mm stem with a clamp diameter of 31.8 mm is used. Depending on the frame size, Mondraker varies some component-specific details. For example, the brand new Onoff handlebars have a rise of 25 mm for frame sizes S to ML, while L and XL are equipped with a rise of 38 mm.
Depending on the model, there are also different versions of the new Onoff stems and handlebars. The S6 stem is made of 6061 aluminum and is partially CNC-machined. The S9 is fully CNC-machined.
There is an S6 1.0 carbon handlebar, the S9 1.0 carbon, and an S6 1.0 model made from 7050 aluminum, all with a width of 800 mm.
Some models also feature the latest version of the Onoff Pija Vario seat post, which offers a freely adjustable range of travel. For frame size S, a Pija post with 140-115 mm travel is used, for M the travel is 160-135 mm, for ML 180-155 mm, and for L and XL 210-185 mm.
