Plus a showroom from NoPain's Backroad CF "Unsupported" long-term tester.28.08.25 17:57 4.8712025-08-28T17:57:00+02:00When Rose introduced the first Backroad in 2018, it was immediately clear: the team from Bocholt had hit the zeitgeist. No other drop-bar bike from the brand sold as well, and updates and color variants kept the bestseller fresh for years, making it synonymous for many with the "one" gravel bike that could do it all. But then came the Backroad FF: With its low-slung race geometry, aero details, and uncompromising focus on speed, Rose suddenly introduced tough competition within its own lineup. Fast, aerodynamic, ruthlessly efficient – perfect for speed, but not for grand adventures with bags, dynamo lighting, and everyday commuting.
Now comes the logical next step: The brand-new Rose Backroad 2026, available in either aluminum or carbon versions, is no longer just an accessible all-rounder but also an uncompromising adventure bike. A bike for long, unsupported journeys where power supply, storage space, and robust details are more important than the last watt-minute on Strava. Rose combines storage space in the frame, smart power solutions with a hub dynamo and power bank, as well as custom luggage solutions – transforming the Backroad into a strong companion for adventures on and off the road.
We had the opportunity to test it during the Rose Adventure Summit in the Dutch Veluwezoom National Park – and can confirm: The adventure begins right in the down tube.
From the gravel icon to the adventure specialist
Rose Backroad 2026Storage space
The centerpiece of the new development is the integrated storage space in the down tube. The Tool Bag, which can be equipped with the most essential tools and is always within reach, fits in there as standard. The clever part: a bottle cage can be attached to the lid of the storage compartment – making every centimeter of the frame doubly useful.
Power supply
Things get even more exciting when it comes to energy supply: A power bank can be mounted in the down tube, with its cable invisibly routed through the frame to the USB-C port beneath the stem. This ensures that bike computers, smartphones, or cameras stay charged at all times while on the go. A clear advantage on long tours, where electricity is often the scarcest resource.
Luggage
Rose has also stepped up its game when it comes to luggage. While many bag solutions on the market seem like bulky compromises or end up scratching the paint over time, the Backroad offers perfectly fitting and waterproof options with the Fidlock system: a frame bag (included with all carbon models) and a top tube bag available as an accessory. Both close securely, are magnetically fixed, and appear as if they are seamlessly integrated into the frame design.
More adventure, more possibilities: Up to 53 millimeters of tire clearance, 18 mounting points, and the clever storage system make the Backroad CF (carbon frame) the most versatile Backroad to date - from a minimalist setup to a fully loaded bikepacking expedition. The Backroad AL (aluminum) still offers 50 millimeters of tire clearance.
Lighting
With the Backroad CF GRX820 "Unsupported" variant, Rose introduces a model for maximum independence. Hub dynamo (SON 29 S), integrated B+M K-Werk Powerbank, Supernova power switch, and lighting system ensure that power supply and lighting function completely autonomously. This is a decisive advantage, especially on long distances and during night rides.
The power switch on the handlebar allows you to choose between charging the power bank and operating the lights. Additionally, the high beam can be activated with a separate button on the handlebar. From about 12 km/h, the SON dynamo powers the lighting independently; in the middle position, the generator is decoupled, saving around three watts.
It’s also practical that all other Backroad models can be easily upgraded to the Unsupported version thanks to pre-installed cables. However, if you prefer to ride without a hub dynamo, you can simply connect a standard power bank (sized to fit the dimensions of the down tube) and use the USB-C port to charge lights or devices.
Every feature and every detail of the new Backroad has been carefully considered, extensively reviewed, and precisely coordinated – with the goal of creating a bike that enables entirely new adventures on two wheels.
Jonas Fischer, Brand Manager AdventureRose Backroad CF "Unsupported"
The Backroad CF "Unsupported" is the top model of the carbon range and comes equipped with a mechanical Shimano GRX 820 1x12 groupset. Rose deliberately opts for the mechanical version, as with a total price of 4,400 euros including frame bag, top tube bag, hub dynamo, Supernova lighting front and rear, as well as a rechargeable B+M power bank, the package is not only extremely attractive in price but also practical. This solution eliminates the need to carry an additional Shimano battery or charger. For those who want to play it safe, simply pack a spare cable and you are well-prepared.
Pragmatism takes precedence over lightweight construction when it comes to the wheels. The aluminum models with a 27 mm internal width may not be featherweights, but they impress with their stability and durability, even after hard impacts under full load.

The Supernova M99 DY PRO is the first dynamo-powered LED headlight with high beam and German road approval. Thanks to innovative control electronics and a matrix of 9 power LEDs, it achieves up to 1,000 lumens and 200 lux – values that were previously reserved for high-performance e-bike headlights. Once mounted, the headlight is completely maintenance-free. It automatically adjusts the light intensity depending on speed and lights up during the ride as soon as the SON hub dynamo is activated via the Supernova Power Switch.
It is complemented by the Supernova TL3 MINI rear light. Ultra-compact, waterproof, and lightweight, it ensures an extremely bright, homogeneous light signature with high recognition value thanks to High-Density LED technology.
B+M K-Werk Powerbank with dynamo connection USB
The centerpiece of the self-sufficient power supply is the Busch+Müller K-Werk, a powerful power bank with a dynamo connection. The integrated 5,000 mAh lithium-ion battery stores the electricity generated by the dynamo and delivers it evenly and with minimal fluctuations to devices such as smartphones, GPS devices, or action cameras – optionally even while stationary, without riding.
The housing is splash and rainwater-proof, and the USB cover protects against dirt and moisture. A five-level LED indicator provides information about the charge level. The K-Werk is attached to the Rose Backroad with a Velcro strap on the down tube. In addition to the dynamo, it can also be charged traditionally via Micro-USB at a power outlet.
Technical specifications:
• 5,000 mAh lithium-ion battery (approx. 275 g)
• 5 V / 1.9 A output via USB on the K-Werk or USB-C beneath the stem
• Rechargeable via SON dynamo (6 V AC) or Micro-USB
• Dimensions: 101 x 65 x 38 mm

Luggage solution
The Rose Frame Bag and the Rose Top Tube Bag for the new Backroad CF combine storage space and aerodynamics. Thanks to the magnet-mechanical Fidlock system, the bags are securely fixed to the frame, can be clicked in blindly, and removed again with a twisting motion. They fit seamlessly, do not rattle, and remain reliably in place even on rough gravel sections. There is a suitable model for each frame size, which integrates cleanly into the frame design with side Aero Flaps.
With water-repellent material, high-quality YKK zippers, and enough space for a rain jacket, snacks, or a spare tube, the bags are practical companions for training rides as well as long bikepacking tours.
Practical: With two additional Fidlock TWIST bike bases on the seat tube and down tube, two Fidlock water bottles can still be used despite the mounted Frame Bag, as there is enough space below the bag.
Backroad CF Line-Up (Carbon)
The carbon models start at a weight of 9.1 kilograms and are offered with mechanical or electronic groupsets from Shimano and SRAM.

Rose Backroad CFRevised Geometry
Thanks to a new geometry, Rose has pushed the Backroad CF further towards adventure and long-distance use. The slightly slacker head angle and longer wheelbase provide noticeably more composure and stability – especially at speed, with luggage, or on gravel descents. At the same time, the steeper seat angle increases pedaling efficiency, while the revised seat tube adds extra flex for comfort.

The geometry remains overall relaxed and upright, making long tours more comfortable. Those who prefer a sportier ride can still "slam the jam" with the stem and choose a race-oriented position. With up to 53 millimeters of tire clearance, the new Backroad also offers more capacity for rough terrain and bikepacking setups. Stack and reach are in a range that closely resembles the old Backroad AL.
Backroad AL Line-Up (Aluminum)
The aluminum models feature the same storage space in the down tube and the integrated USB-C port. Additionally, all cables on the Backroad AL are pre-routed, allowing for the retrofitting of a standard power bank, as well as a dynamo and lights. They are offered with
mechanical 1x or 2x drivetrains from Shimano and SRAM. The Backroad AL EQ is particularly aimed at everyday and travel-oriented riders and comes standard with fenders, a lighting system, and a hub dynamo wheelset.

Rose's most affordable entry into the topic of bikepacking.
Rose Backroad ALImpressions from the "Rose Adventure Summit"
As part of the Rose Adventure Summit in the Veluwezoom National Park, not only was the new Backroad product range presented, but also the adventurous side of gravel cycling. From August 12th to 14th, Rose invited participants to the Dutch gravel mecca, where exciting team challenges awaited over 60 to 80 kilometers – from technical riding skills in quicksand to endurance tests in dense forests. The entire event was accompanied by an all-inclusive package that was so generous, especially in terms of culinary delights, that most participants likely returned home with more rather than less weight. Anyone who left the camp without an extra kilo of enjoyment and good vibes in their luggage must have definitely missed a turn along the way.
But this is far from the end of the story — it's actually the beginning of an exciting adventure experience. NoPain's test bike, a Backroad CF "Unsupported" in Lions Mane and size Medium, was delivered to Wiener Neustadt a day before the publication of this news. Over the coming weeks and months, perhaps even years *Anaaaaatolllll*, it will be relentlessly put through its paces day and night in the wilderness. A detailed long-term test will follow in the fall.
For bargain hunters, it’s worth mentioning: The previous Backroad CF/AL is being discontinued and is currently on sale in the Rose SALE at a discounted price.
