In a strong field of participants and perfect conditions, Upper Austrian Rene Pammer celebrated a commanding victory in the men's category. The women's podium was led by Monika Fritz. A strong statement was also made by the steadily growing women's field, which, with 20 percent female participants, was larger than ever before.
With routes for all performance and age groups – from the demanding marathon course to the panoramic route and the new e-bike route – the event once again underlined the importance of Kufsteinerland as a top cycling destination.
The early bird ...
Already in the early morning hours, the start and finish area at the Upper City Square in Kufstein began to fill up. With the starting gun at 7:30 a.m., the great competition began on three different routes – under perfect conditions with sunshine.
The riders of the marathon distance (120 kilometers, 1,800 meters of elevation gain) and the lake circuit (95 kilometers, 1,160 meters of elevation gain) set out first, followed by the participants of the panoramic route (48 kilometers, 400 meters of elevation gain) at 7:40 a.m. Another ten minutes later, with the last starting gun of the day, the new e-bike route celebrated its premiere.
Austrian podium among the men
The starting field was highly competitive: local hero Max Kuen and last year's winner Max Kirschner (AUT) brought excitement but had to concede defeat in the high-caliber and fast rider field.
The victory on the marathon course was ultimately secured by Rene Pammer, who once again demonstrated his top form in Kufstein. The top rider from Upper Austria has already won the Dolomites Cycling Tour in 2025, achieved 3rd place at the Arlberg Giro, claimed the title of "Glockner King 2025" at the Großglocknerkönig, and also secured the title at the Austrian Amateur Mountain Championships.
Nearly three minutes after Pammer, Jan Kattanek crossed the finish line, managing to beat Christian Oberngruber in a sprint finish – both also from Austria.
"It was my first time starting at the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon – and I’m thrilled. The climbs to Hinterthiersee and Brandenberg are tough; you really have to push yourself. But along the Inn River, you can really pedal hard and pick up speed," said Rene Pammer after his victory.
Monika Fritz triumphs among the women
Monika Fritz celebrated her second victory among the women. Back in 2022, the local hero from nearby Schliersee had already won the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon. Behind her, Lisa Hartung took second place, while Larissa Stupnicki – last year's runner-up – completed the podium in third place. Thus, all three podium positions among the women went to Germany.
“Lisa was a really strong competitor; we had an exciting race right up to the finish line. But what makes me especially happy is that more women are at the starting line every year – it shows how much cycling is gaining importance for us women as well,” said Monika Fritz at the finish.
Record participation with special women power
With 1,515 participants from 35 nations, all starting spots for the 9th Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon were completely booked for the first time. “1,515 participants, fully booked – this has never happened before. This level of participation shows how well the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon has established itself and the appeal it now has,” said Georg Hörhager, chairman of the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association.
Most participants came from Germany, closely followed by local athletes from Austria. However, many international riders also turned the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon into a true highlight. The youngest participant was just twelve years old, while the oldest, at 77 years, impressively demonstrated that a passion for cycling knows no age limit.
Above all, the 20 percent share of women participants proved that cycling is no longer a male-dominated sport. Since the first event in 2016, the proportion of women at the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon has continuously increased. This year, participation was particularly strong on the marathon course, with 156 women taking part.
“Our goal is to inspire more women to take up cycling. The Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon is not about pressure or performance but about experiencing the joy of cycling together,” explains Lina Schneeweiß, sports, nature & vitality theme manager at the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association.
A strong signal in this regard was the collaboration with the Munich-based road cycling community female cycling force this year. This group connects women in cycling – without performance pressure or comparisons. A highlight of the weekend was the ‘Welcome Ride by female cycling force,’ a joint ride that brought together beginners and experienced riders. The ride clearly showed: women have arrived in cycling – and are actively shaping it.
A weekend full of cycling highlights
But it wasn't just the women who had several program highlights to enjoy at the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon. The race on Sunday was the highlight of an entire weekend dedicated to cycling.
The starting signal for the sporting gathering was given on Friday with the legendary Aschinger Alm Gaudirace. On Saturday, the focus was on warming up together: During the “Cappuccino Ride,” ambitious amateur cyclists and professionals, together with local hero Max Kuen, took to the course.
And even off the course, the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon offered a varied program: The expo at Oberer Stadtplatz showcased the latest trends in the scene and attracted numerous visitors. Thanks to the live broadcast in the start and finish area as well as the online stream by Studio K19, no one missed the thrilling race moments. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the traditional pasta party provided a relaxed atmosphere before the award ceremonies were celebrated in the afternoon.
“The Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon once again demonstrated this year how versatile cycling can be. Whether ambitious athletes or leisure riders – everyone can find the right challenge here. The fact that Kufsteinerland has established itself as a cycling destination makes us proud. With well-developed cycling paths, specialized accommodations, and tailored offers for cyclists, we are creating the infrastructure needed to continue promoting this development,” said Georg Hörhager, chairman of the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association.
Outlook
Frank Rietzler, organizer of the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon, also gave a positive summary and at the same time provided a preview of the 10th anniversary on August 23, 2026. “The Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon has now become an institution in the road cycling calendar for many athletes, and the enormous demand speaks for itself. Next year, we will introduce the 'Tyrolean Road Bike Cup,' which will, for the first time, combine three renowned Tyrolean cycling marathons into one overall ranking. Anyone who completes the Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon, the Imst Cycling Marathon, and the Arlberg Giro next year will be included in the overall ranking of the newly created series.”
