With this motto, after 20 years of racing abstinence, the revival of the Schöckl Downhill took place, over the stage, over the rocks, over the roots right at the top near the "Gibim”-Schüdl, full throttle down the hill.23.08.23 10:38 5092023-08-23T10:38:00+02:00A wild ride - that's what the Graz Schöckl promises with its rough, technically demanding trails and routes to interested bikers at any time of day, in any weather, and almost all year round. On special and extremely rare occasions, this rugged nature then becomes the setting for special events: A race against time, a battle of man, machine, and gravity against time, against oneself, and against the Schöckl monster.
The Schöckl Monster is ultimately not of human origin
so the legend goes20 years after the Downhill European Championships in 2003, the Schöckl once again became the venue for a downhill race as part of the Auner Austrian Gravity Series (short AAGS). Not on the infamous "Gedscho," one of the blackest black runs in the green province, but next door on a modified version of the slightly easier "Gibim" track. Tech-Specs: 1.4 km and 260 vertical meters, technically demanding, but without extreme courage sections or mandatory jumps.
A total of 115 participants from 7 nations took on the challenging race. In addition to the great Austrian young hopefuls, one or two new talents were able to make a name for themselves on the natural course. For instance, in the juniors U17 (2008) category, Florian Hiebaum achieved the day's best time with creative line choices.
In the men's category, ROHRMOSER Valentin from the Bike-Club Schladming Dachstein won with a time of 02:48.49, with an 18 hundredths of a second lead over MITTERHAUSER Paul from the Dirty Trail Friends (02:48.67). Third place was taken by PROFFITT Thomas from the Wienerwald Trails club with a time of 02:51.63.
In the women's category, EDTBAUER Julia from the Bikesport RC Kremstal club won with a time of 03:27.09. The runner-up was RÜMMELE Eva from velochicks.at with a time of 04:17.91.
