Under the motto "A product launch every week," the Swiss are introducing four new MTB wheels for all categories.
While carbon wheels in mountain biking were considered a new concept just a few years ago and were reserved for top riders, today they are widely used. To affirm their role as high-end manufacturers with the 1200 MTB series, the Swiss had to evolve the traditional aluminum concept.
A unique rim manufacturing process in the bicycle industry, which is also used in the new road and gravel wheels, creates durable yet lightweight rims through maximum compression of the carbon layers. Additionally, the wheels of the 1200 series are equipped with carbon fiber layers that encompass the entire rim and reinforce the rim flanges with their long, uninterrupted fibers to absorb heavier shocks.
This method, combined with components specifically tuned for each riding style, leads to the introduction of the four new MTB wheels XRC 1200 SPLINE (XC), XMC 1200 SPLINE (All-Mountain), EXC 1200 CLASSIC (Enduro), and HXC 1200 SPLINE (E-MTB).
NoSane has received an exclusive set of XMC 1200 SPLINE and will soon subject them to a worthy long-term review on his Mondraker Foxy.
1200 - Break the mold!
True translation: Break with tradition and blaze new trails!Technology
The patent-pending, revolutionary "out of the mold" Carbon rim manufacturing process by DT Swiss offers several advantages. Not only can the rims be produced in one step without cutting the fibers of the outer layers or needing to glue individual components, but this Swiss "in-house" development also makes cosmetic post-processing or a final coating unnecessary. This saves weight and ensures a high-quality finish without air inclusions or uncontrolled resin accumulations.
Furthermore, the quality of each rim can be checked through all layers to 100%, and only rims without any material defects are released for the final wheel system assembly. This always keeps the customer on the safe side.
Because the Swiss are convinced that hooked rims are the ultimate solution when it comes to safety and user-friendliness, all four new 1200 series wheels are equipped with flanges. Compared to hookless rims, hooked rims forgive faulty applications in terms of pressure and tire compatibilities more, and the tire holds better on the rim in all situations. To reinforce the rim flanges during hard off-road use against heavier impacts, the 1200 series wheels were equipped with long and continuous carbon fiber layers that encircle the entire rim.

To meet the cutting-edge technology of the rims, all wheels in the 1200 series are equipped with 180 hubs: lightweight, stiff, and with SINC ceramic bearings. Additionally, the Bio-MTB wheels were built with DT Revolite spokes. These spokes combine strength with extremely low weight and are designed to surpass other MTB spokes in this weight class in terms of durability. The only exception is the HXC 1200 SPLINE, which is reinforced with eMTB-specific spokes.
DT Swiss 1200 Series Lineup
XRC 1200 Spline
Despite maximum compression of the carbon layers, the XRC is DT Swiss's lightest MTB disc 29er wheelset to date. Both wheels are built with 24 DT Revolite spokes each. With a lighter front rim for more agility and the rear wheel with the lightest MTB hub from DT Swiss, this is the ultimate cross country wheelset.
XMC 1200 Spline
In all-mountain riding, versatility is the key to success. Like with the XRC, the Swiss also rely on a nimble and lighter front wheel rim and a more robust rear wheel rim for the XMC - however, with 28 spokes at the front and back. Additionally, the customer has the choice between the robust, quickly engaging Ratchet DEG freehub system and the lighter Ratchet EXP system.
EXC 1200 Classic
The EXC wheelset is particularly robustly constructed and offers ample reserves, even if the line choice does not go according to plan. The lighter front rim has 28 DT Revolite spokes, while the more robust rear rim has 32. The quickly engaging Ratchet DEG ensures a shorter idle distance, which is crucial for good acceleration out of corners.
