The compact compressor from the Chinese manufacturer Hoto (short for "Home Tools") is not only suitable for air mattresses or footballs but also precisely inflates car, motorcycle, and bicycle tires with a pressure of up to 10.3 bar. In addition to the permanently installed car valve adapter, the package also includes a ball needle, a conical nozzle, and a high-quality Presta valve adapter. The battery-powered air pump can be charged on the go via a USB-C connection.

The generously sized LCD display shows the battery level, the current pressure, and the target pressure. A large rotary knob allows you to choose one of five operating modes (Ball, Bicycle, Car, Motorcycle, or Custom) and set the desired maximum pressure. One of the two buttons is used for turning the device on/off and for electric inflation, while the other activates a bright LED work light. Once the preset maximum pressure is reached, the inflation process stops automatically.

The actual airflow rate can only be speculated - however, we assume a maximum performance of less than 10 l/min. For a typical 29" tire, the compressor takes just over 2 minutes to reach 1.8 bar. Any standard floor pump is more powerful and faster. Apart from Schwalbe's TLE tires, which seat tubeless on the rim with little pressure and without the classic "boing-boing" sound, a classic tubeless setup with the Hoto battery-powered air pump is generally not feasible. For a TLR/TLE/UST tire to reliably seat into the rim flanges even with poor fit, around 2 bar within a few seconds would be necessary.

For this, the stylish Hoto cordless air pump performs admirably in any modern workshop and on the go in the car trunk – both for the precise measurement of tire pressure of all kinds and for the effortless and safe inflation or topping up of the same. After all, a single battery charge can inflate approximately 9 MTB tires or more than 2 car tires, and unlike similar premium products on the market, the included Presta adapter works excellently.

The compact Hoto Battery Air Compressor combines technology with design and was convincing in the Bikeboard review. Apart from tubeless mounting, the mini compressor scores with its high-quality workmanship, accuracy in monitoring and adjusting tire pressure, and automatic shut-off. The only downside is that electronic pressure reduction is not possible - the valve core must still be operated mechanically.

The pricing of this "Made in China" product is somewhat opaque. Depending on whether the compressor is ordered from an online shop within the EU or a third country, different list prices, shipping, and possibly customs costs apply. You are on the safe side if you order the Hoto air compressor from a national online shop at a favorable price of around 70 Euros. On Amazon Germany, the product costs double, and even the low prices on the HotoTools homepage become less attractive once shipping and customs fees are factored in.
