With 1,317 registered participants, this year's E-Bike World Championship has literally outdone itself: following 2022, this number represents another world record in the pursuit of the title for the world's largest E-MTB event. And, just like last year, the diligent ladies, gentlemen, and children rode under pure sunshine and in the best of spirits for every second, as genuine World Championship medals in gold, silver, and bronze were up for grabs in Ischgl and Galtür.
The victory in the Elite class for men was secured by Jaro Mician from Slovakia, while Barbara Oberdorfer from Italy was successful among the women. In the end, 701 amateur world champions were able to celebrate.
Medal and Fox Hunt
While in the Open class three time limits had to be beaten to secure a medal in the end, it was said for the participants of the Elite classification: Whoever reaches the finish line first, becomes the world champion.
This course was characterized by narrow, technically demanding up- and downhill sections as well as various obstacles. This year, Jaro Mician from Slovakia conquered the extremely challenging 36 kilometers with an elevation difference of 1,200 meters the fastest. He prevailed with a time of 1:20:06.1 ahead of Roland Ranftl from Austria and Adrian Horchler from Germany and can now call himself E-Bike World Champion.
The victory among the women went to Barbara Oberdorfer from Italy. She won with a time of 1:27:12.3 ahead of Tina Schirmaier from Germany and Renate Peer from Ischgl.
A true flood of world champions was also to be crowned this year in the Open category. Another 258 conquered silver on the 26-kilometer-long course, 351 were rewarded with bronze.
Colorful supporting program
Also, aside from the race, there was a lot offered in Ischgl this weekend. A comprehensive E-Bike Expo, live music including performances by Folkshilfe and Jacob Koopman, trial shows, and many more parts of the supporting program ensured a good mood and lots of variety,
As the main prize in the raffle, an E-Bike from Simplon worth 8,000 euros was given away this year.
In the E-Bike Fox Hunt on Thursday, a total of 15 women competed against the ÖSV "fox" Teresa Stadlober, who started without electric support but with a time advantage, and 62 men against the also exclusively muscle-powered ÖSV "fox" Mika Vermeulen. The reward for all their efforts: the subsequent sun.downer on the Idalp at over 2,300 meters above sea level with chill beats and breathtaking panorama.
Records and Satisfaction
The icing on the cake was the Guinness World Record for the largest E-Bike race in the world.
The joy of a successful event is also great among the organizers: "To inspire so many active participants of every generation, from near and far, from the hobby and professional sports sectors, for the trend sport E-Bike, to share joy and fun together, and to celebrate this with a Guinness World Record, is outstanding," DDr. Markus Mitterdorfer from the presidency of the E-Bike World Federation (EBWF) was extremely satisfied.
And also at the responsible tourism association Paznaun - Ischgl, the excitement about the repeat event in Ischgl is palpable: "The E-Bike World Championships 2023 offered both the participants and the audience along the course an exciting racing spectacle amidst the Paznaun mountain scenery. The participant record for this now third edition also confirms that this trend sport fits perfectly with the range of services offered by our region," Alexander von der Thannen, Chairman of TVB Paznaun — Ischgl, is pleased.
