Photo Report: 5th Vienna Trail Brunch 2025

When the dirt clods fly, the white tablecloth is laid out, middle schoolers are constantly throwing No Footers and Seatgrabs, the background music comes from a Red Bull event car, and a microphone-equipped Andi Brewi is joking with the local stars of the international slopestyle circuit, then it's Trailbrunch time again at the Hohe Wand Wiese in the Trailcenter Vienna.
This year, for the fifth time on the calendar of the MTB epicenter in the west of Austria's capital city, the gathering of stars from the freeride scene with their young and youngest fans was more focused than ever on the wishes and needs of the up-and-coming riders. And these days, those revolve around one thing above all: tricks, tricks, tricks.

45 kids, so once again 50% more than last year, were invited this year; 40 of them turned out to be healthy and fit enough to participate amidst the first wave of autumn illnesses. On the one hand, they belonged to the "regulars" of the trail center, coming more or less directly from the weekly youth training sessions held there. On the other hand, the HWW crew utilized their nationwide contacts in Austria to open the invitational to young guns from other federal states.
The fact that this number could easily be doubled based on the kids' interest: no question. "But our infrastructure can't handle more than seven groups, and if we split the dates, we run into the time constraints of the coaches," says trail center manager Patrick Huber as he ponders how to tackle the desired future squaring of the circle.

It certainly wouldn't fail due to the willingness of the aforementioned to expand the Vienna Trailbrunch into the next big youth institution, as the gentlemen (unfortunately, no ladies were present this time due to injuries or scheduling conflicts) Kaudela, Kaiser, Ruso, and Co. are visibly enthusiastic participants.
From morning warm-up exercises and introductory dry runs to step-by-step how-tos, commented demo rides, and enlightening video analysis with solid error correction, they—who usually rock the most renowned freeride contests and the most challenging slopestyle courses in the world—dedicate their entire day to their young students. And the kids, in turn, hang on their teachers' every word.

Since there is a one-on-one conversation to clarify what to focus on for the next jump into the air cushion, and over there a group coaching session on the topics of line choice, adjusting speed, and body positioning on the trail. Overconfidence out there in the forest is certainly a topic that needs to be addressed, as Peter Kaiser knows from four years of Trailbrunch experience; Clemens Kaudela, who has been involved from the beginning and is therefore practically a seasoned coaching pro, is always amazed by the remarkable progress of the kids.
"When you see the sparkle in the children's eyes, you are reminded of what it's all about and how you started yourself," admits Daniel Ruso, acknowledging the grounding effect the entire weekend has.

And the kids themselves? They pull off more backflips in a day than their age, catapult themselves from one-handers to tuck no-handers within hours, whip and style over the trails as if there’s no tomorrow, and celebrate every progression like the pros: throwing the bike down with a jubilant shout, raising their arms high, yelling their joy-filled excitement into the smartphone display immediately held out to capture the moment – the gestures are spot on.

When they’ve processed all these experiences and internalized what they’ve learned, when their body control rises alongside their trick level, when they’ve solidified the repertoire they landed in the airbag at the camp to the point where they can perform it any time on solid dirt… then maybe, at the next or the one after that Vienna Trailbrunch, their time will come to shine as a Junior Coach, and on the Hohe Wand Wiese, as has often happened since the inception of this jam format, the circle will close once again.

"For us, the Trailbrunch is much more than just an event," says Hubert Hager, Marketing Manager of Kenda Europe and, as such, a sponsor of both the Hohe Wand Wiese and this event from the very beginning, in his anniversary review. Here, beyond the work, the stage, and the experiences for the younger generation, it has always been about meeting, exchanging ideas, networking, and having fun. Kenda has discovered athletes like the Ruso Brothers on the outskirts of Vienna, athletes have found photographers, and equipment suppliers have found testimonials.
In 2025, the audience was also noticeably international. Just before the youth camp, Kenda had invited 40 press representatives from around the world to the presentation of their new K-Series at the Trailcenter Vienna, and many took the opportunity to wrap up the launch after the - depending on your perspective - concluding or introductory Trailbrunch party in downtown Vienna with some relaxed kids-watching on the terrace of the HWW.

However, we actually want to conclude our Trailbrunch photo report with another piece of good news, especially for all the young shredders out there: The big airbag powered by M.O.D. will remain at the Trailcenter Vienna until the end of the season and will likely be set up again next year!
